Some bands dissolve. Some merely wait. Divine Silence has always belonged to the latter — a quiet that was never truly empty, but coiled and patient, heavy with everything left unsaid.
Founded in the early 1990s by Joshua Chalmers, Chris Molinari and John Vivolo, Divine Silence creates gothic doom metal rooted in grief, stillness, atmosphere, and cinematic melancholy. The band’s sound blends crushing doom riffs, mournful melodies, dark ambient textures, atmospheric keyboards, haunting vocals, and shoegaze-inspired layers into slow-burning compositions built on emotional weight and immersive mood. Drawing inspiration from the spirit of classic British gothic doom while embracing a darker, more cinematic modern sound, Divine Silence crafts music meant for the hours between midnight and dawn. After years of silence following their final performances in the early 2000s, the band has returned — not as nostalgia, but resurrection.
Joshua Chalmers serves as drummer, guitarist, vocalist, lyricist, songwriter, and the band’s primary sound engineer, handling recording, mixing, and mastering also assisting with social media, web design and art direction. John Vivolo serves as bassist, guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist, composer, and the band’s primary visual artist, creating Divine Silence’s videos, imagery, and social media presence. Vivolo is also the creator of the YouTube channel Dark Waters Rising (@darkwatersrising), where the StoryForge Project explores cinematic storytelling and AI-driven creative media.
